Describe the BEST experience of your life?
Best experience of my life was to travel the world and I ended up living in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Australia.
What do you typically tell people when they ask you what you do?
I always say I am a mum and run my own business. For me the two are inseparable as I would have never considered running my own business until I became a mum and was looking for another way of earning an income.
In one word, describe your life as a business owner?
Exhilarating!
How did Virtual Assistant for Your BIZ come about?
I started my own office support business 7 years ago and at the time I mainly did onsite support for businesses on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. I started out offering basic support like database management, typing up documents etc. This evolved to virtual office support to local, national and international clients. Over the years I have moved from offering a large range of services to a niche of services, specialising in online marketing.
What was a defining moment in your business?
First moment was when my second child was born and my husband lost his job and I had to choose between giving up my business or making it a serious business that could support my family. Second moment was when I realised that to grow my business I needed to outsource myself.
What do you love most about your business?
The flexibility in choosing my hours, who I want work with and doing something I love doing. I enjoy going to work on Mondays!
What do you do to PLAY/ unwind?
I love reading whether it is a book or online.
What has been your most satisfying moment in business?
When I fix an issue for a client.
How do you go about building a loyal referral base/ client base?
I always try and get testimonials and I usually use them on my website and newsletter.
How is running a successful business different to what you may have thought it would be?
It is so much more empowering and has given back my confidence that I lost when I became a mum. I also have gained skills I would have never learned in employment.
What are some of the benefits of building relationships with other female business owners?
First of all other female business owners especially other mums in business understand the juggle of running a business and looking after a family. It gives you that immediate connection.
What advice would you give to other business owners trying to grow their business?
Outsource what can be outsourced (so hardly any input required from you), take a risk and increase your rates/ pricing!
